Nintendo Network logo

Nintendo Network is an online service for the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U, similar to Nintendo's own Wi-Fi Connection and the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. News of the platform sparked after a photo of Theatrhythm Final Fantasy's box art was uploaded onto the internet, with a Nintendo Network logo on it. [1] [2] [3] After several other rumors, the service was eventually confirmed by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata in an investors meeting on January 26, 2012. [4] [5]

Features

Unlike Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, which has been focused upon specific functionalities and concepts, we are aiming to establish a platform where various services available through the network for our consumers shall be connected via Nintendo Network service so that the company can make comprehensive proposals to consumers.

On the Wii U, the service will allow personalized accounts, which will allow multiple users per system. Online profiles will no longer be system-based. Digitally-distributed retail games would also be available through the system.

Players can also purchase downloadable content through it, though Nintendo has stated that they will release games in full capacity and will only add DLC if they come up with new content for the games, rather than release the titles incomplete and charge for DLC, as some companies such as Capcom have been lashed at for.
