At launch, the Nintendo 3DS was available in two colors: Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black. Other colors were publicized, but did not initially make it to the market. Some others have hit the market through the 3DS's lifespan.

Regular Colors

Aqua Blue

  • Notes: Launch color; featured in much of the 3DS's early promotional material. Appears light-blue in advertisements but is more of a turquoise color in person.

Cosmo Black

Monster Hunter 3 G

Nintendo 3DS Monster Hunter 3G Original Design

This was released in a bundle with the Monster Hunter 3(Tri-)G title which came to Japan in December of 2011. The front cover of the system has red markings of a Brachydios, the flagship monster of the game, and the game's logo to the right of it. [27]


SD Gundam G Generation 3D

To coincide with the release of the game on December 22nd 2011 in Japan. The “Char Nintendo 3DS Premium Box” comes with a copy of the game, the usual accessories (AC adapter, 2GB memory card, etc.) and a Gundam Char Aznable design red 3DS. Namco Bandai is also throwing in a limited-edition Gundam Tri-age AR cards.

New Love Plus

The three new exclusive Nintendo 3DS sets will be named New Manaka Deluxe, New Rinko Deluxe, and New Nene Deluxe, and they are only available for purchase through Konami Style.

Mario Competition

Three different Mario-themed 3DSes were produced as part of Club Nintendo's "Chotto Mario na 3DS Present Campaign." One is based on the look of Mario's clothing, mainly his overalls, the second one is based on Peach's, sporting a pink color, and the third having white spots with a red background, resembling Toad. They were given away as part of a contest in Japan. Nintendo of Europe also announced that they would be having the same contest per their Club Nintendo which customers will be able to enter by registering two 3DS games. [28]

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D

A special system with a snake theme, officially called "Snake Camouflage", was announced for Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, which and is sold exclusively through Konami Style and through raffle. [29] [30]

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance

Square Enix announced a bundle, featuring the Kingdom Hearts 3D game, and and a specially design 3DS, which featured the symbols of the Dream Eaters, the game's main enemies, Mickey Mouse's heads, crowns, and hearts, which was released on March 29, 2012.

Fire Emblem Awakening

To coincide with the release of the game on April 19 (in Japan), a version of the Cobalt Blue 3DS with a design of two dragons and a sword on the front of the system was released in a bundle with the game itself and a Nintendo eShop card as a free bonus. It was released exclusively through Nintendo's online sales service. This bundle will be release in North America on 2/4/2013[31]

Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D

A bundle of the game with a specially-designed 3DS system will be released on May 31, the same date as the game itself releases.

CoroCoro Comics 35th Anniversary

To celebrate its 35th anniversary, Shogakukan's Corocoro Comic magazine is offering an exclusive Nintendo 3DS system. The magazine describes the item as a "once-in-35-years miracle," and the magazine will reveal how to obtain the 3DS and more details about the "top secret project" in the May issue, which will ship on April 14 2012.

Contest held at the official Square-Enix website to promote the game.

Doraemon

A contest prize for those who buy the new Chinese-language educational game, Doraemon: Nobita’s Number Adventure. To enter the draw you have to be in Taiwan to buy the game. Those of you in Taiwan will have to visit the contest page and download the entry form on September 3rd 2013.

Monster Hunter 4

Nintendo 3DS Monster Hunter 4 Hunter Pack

Japan will receive this limited edition Monster Hunter 4-themed 3DS on November 7, 2013 appropriately bundled with a copy of the game.


Others

At E3 2011, Nintendo showcased other different colors for the 3DS, such as orange and green, which currently have no plans to be officially released. The red and purple colors, however, eventually went on sale for the public.
